Syrian artist Mayada El Hennawy is preparing to open the 21st edition of the prestigious Mawazine Festival in Morocco, where she will perform for her fans at the Mohammed V National Theatre on June 19th. El Hennawy is expected to deliver a truly exceptional performance, reviving the glories of her artistic repertoire composed by renowned composers.
El Hennawy’s return comes after a striking appearance last January, characterized by elegance and poise, during which she confirmed that she had undergone radical and comprehensive lifestyle changes. With her highly anticipated concert approaching, El Hennawy was keen to address the controversy surrounding a recently circulated audio clip in which some claimed she had used artificial intelligence to compensate for a change in her vocal range.
In an official press statement, El Hennawy described these claims as “rumors aimed at tarnishing her image,” explaining that the recording in question is from an old concert four years ago, during which she performed despite suffering from a cold, out of respect for her audience. She asserted decisively, “My voice remains strong and natural, and the interaction of a live audience cannot be faked by artificial intelligence.”
It is worth noting that Mayada El Hennawy remains a landmark figure in the history of Arabic music; she was the first Arab singer to release her songs on CDs and the first artist to record her songs using the advanced “track” system.
She is also the creator of masterpieces in collaboration with giants such as Baligh Hamdi on “Ana Ba’sha’ak” and “El Hob Elly Kan,” and Riad El Sonbati, who said of her, “I am happy to conclude my career with Mayada as I began it with Umm Kulthum.”
