After a series of leaks, Huawei has officially announced its new foldable phone, which appears poised to cause a real headache for Apple. The new phone, named the Pura X Max, is not just another release; it’s the official announcement of the era of “wide-screen foldable phones.”
Huawei is preparing to launch a range of smartphones in China next week, headlined by the Pura X Max, which features a book-like design but with a remarkably wide internal display aspect ratio. The phone is scheduled for official release on April 20th, alongside the Huawei Pura 90 Pro series. The company has already revealed the design, colors, and memory and storage options, which include five attractive colors: Midnight Black, Snow White, Star Blue, Olive Gold, and Vibrant Orange.
A direct challenge to Apple? While Huawei is the most popular company in the Chinese foldable phone market, the Pura X Max seems specifically aimed at competing with Apple. While Apple is expected to launch its first foldable iPhone later this year with a wide design to differentiate itself from competitors, Huawei has already put this trend into practice months before the American giant.
The new phone offers a viewing area with an approximate 16:11 aspect ratio, and marketing materials show it can be used in both portrait and landscape modes when unfolded, enhancing its usability.
Storage Options: Huawei has opened pre-orders in China with four storage options, starting with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, and going up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.
As with most recent Huawei phones, the Pura X Max is unlikely to be officially released outside of China. However, this release will be a true test for the market; it will either pave the way for the success of Apple’s upcoming design or prove that the public does not favor this new wide-screen phone form factor.
