Producer Nada El Sobky revealed new details about the reasons behind the banning of the film “Halawet Rouh” (The Sweetness of the Soul), 12 years after its theatrical release.
In a post on her official Facebook page, she explained that an actress, whose identity she did not disclose, was behind the film’s cancellation through a systematic and paid campaign that influenced public opinion.
Nada wrote: “May God suffice me, and He is the best disposer of affairs… So, after 13 years, I now know who stopped the film ‘Halawet Rouh’ through systematic and paid campaigns and by influencing public opinion with paid committees.”
She continued: “Because an actress is jealous of another actress and producers who were very close to me, with whom I shared a long and close relationship.”
She added: “How can betrayal reach this level?! I’m truly shocked that you would harm someone’s work and livelihood simply because you believe it’s your right to fight others, even at the expense of many people.”
She emphasized that everyone who saw the film realized it contained nothing that warranted such campaigns, noting that significant sums of money had been spent on them.
The film “Halawet Rouh” was released in 2014 and achieved widespread popularity, but it faced a wave of harsh criticism due to the boldness of some of its scenes. This led to a decision to halt its screening and withdraw it from cinemas before it was re-evaluated by the Censorship Board.
The film’s plot revolves around a young woman who finds herself the object of desire for many in her circle after her husband travels abroad, placing her in complex social situations.
The film stars Haifa Wehbe, Bassem Samra, Mohamed Lotfy, Salah Abdallah, Ahlam El-Gretly, and Ahmed Fathy. It was written by Ali El-Gendy and directed by Sameh Abdel Aziz.
