After the film “The Tagamoa Killer” faced a series of crises, beginning with its temporary withdrawal from cinemas just hours after its release during the Eid al-Fitr holiday, before being reinstated after the removal of some controversial scenes, the film has entered a new crisis with the family of the real suspect filing an official complaint against the filmmakers.
The family of Karim S., the real suspect in the case known in the media as the “Tagamoa Killer,” accused the filmmakers of defaming the family and exploiting the real incident without justification.
Habi Bashir, the suspect’s lawyer, confirmed during a phone interview on the “Sabah Al Arabiya” program that he had filed an official complaint with the Public Prosecutor, because the law does not only support art, but also stands with the individual and society. This case is not just about a film; it touches on the reputation of a family and the lives of individuals, and justice will have its say before the Court of Cassation.
He explained that the film portrays the family as the culprit and holds its members morally responsible, reveals private information without consent, and presents the family in a degrading manner.
Bashir said, “The case is still in the Court of Cassation. How can an Egyptian mother, who is Karim’s mother, find all the details of her house in a film without anyone asking her permission, and the matter is still before the Court of Cassation?”
