The saying “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure” perfectly describes content creator Paige Thalia, who didn’t just watch the 98th Academy Awards on TV; she decided to bring a piece of cinematic history into her small Los Angeles apartment.
“Thanks to the Academy for the free carpet!”
In a video that garnered nearly 5 million views, Thalia is seen unfurling a huge piece of the famous red carpet in her studio apartment, jokingly commenting, “I want to thank the Academy… for this free carpet.” The piece Thalia acquired likely bears the footprints of A-list stars who graced the Oscars, such as Michael B. Jordan and Jessie Buckley.
The mission: Dolby Theatre trash cans
Thalia revealed that acquiring this “treasure” was simpler than some might imagine. She set herself a task days before the ceremony and successfully completed it by heading to the trash cans near the iconic Dolby Theatre.
“If you need a rug for your apartment, the Oscars red carpet is lying in a dumpster on Hawthorne Street,” Thalia said in the video. “Security lets people take it; I was the first to ask, and if you just ask, they’ll let you.”
A Hollywood Twist in the “Nest of Love”
With a creative touch, Thalia cut and modified the rug to fit the limited space of her apartment. Now, her beloved dog, Cough, is seen lounging on the red carpet that, just days before, was the center of global attention.
As Oscar-winning actor Jeff Bridges famously said in his film, “This rug is really what holds the room together.”
