According to Variety, the film grossed approximately $18.5 million on its first day, despite a limited release in several countries, reflecting a powerful start for one of the most anticipated films of recent times.
The film is expected to continue its strong performance over the weekend, with estimates suggesting revenues of between $65 and $75 million in the US market, in addition to between $75 and $80 million internationally, further solidifying its chances of topping the global box office.
The film chronicles Michael Jackson’s rise from his early days as the lead singer of his family’s band, through the artistic phases that shaped his career, to his transformation into one of the world’s most prominent music stars, through timeless hits like “Thriller” and “Beat It,” while also focusing on the iconic looks and performances that cemented his status as a global icon.
The film concludes with Michael Jackson’s death in 2009 at the age of 50, leaving behind a vast musical legacy that continues to resonate with generations of music lovers.
Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the film stars his nephew, Jaffar Jackson, as Michael Jackson. With a production budget of approximately $155 million, it is one of the most expensive biopics ever made.
