The 98th Academy Awards ceremony kicked off amidst great global interest as the winners were announced at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, with a large audience of stars and filmmakers from around the world in attendance. Michael B. Jordan won the Oscar for Best Actor for his portrayal of two different characters in the film Sinner. Jessie Buckley won the Oscar for Best Actress, becoming the first Irish actress to win the award. The Oscar for Best Director went to Paul Thomas Anderson for One Battle After Another. Sean Penn won Best Supporting Actor for One Battle After Another, while Amy Madigan won Best Supporting Actress for Weapons. In the writing and creative categories, One Battle After Another won Best Picture, while Ryan Coogler’s Sinners won Best Original Screenplay, and One Battle After Another also won Best Adapted Screenplay. Regarding the technical and artistic awards, the Best Cinematography award went to Autumn Derald Arkabau for Sinners, while One Battle After Another won Best Editing. Frankenstein received awards for Best Production Design, Best Costume Design, and Best Makeup and Hairstyling. In the Sound and Music category, the FI team won Best Sound, while Swedish composer Ludwig Göransson won Best Original Score for Sinners. The Best Original Song award went to “Golden” from K-Pop Demon Hunters. As for the feature films, Sentimental Value won Best International Feature Film, K-Pop Demon Hunters won Best Animated Feature, and All the Empty Rooms won Best Documentary Short Film. The Girl Who Cried Pearls won Best Animated Short Film, and The Singers and Two People Exchanging Saliva shared the Best Live Action Short Film award.
