The past few hours have witnessed a major uproar on social media platforms after blogger Rana Ahmed dropped a bombshell by claiming to have secretly married Al Ahly and Egyptian national team goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy. This prompted the Al Ahly captain to take immediate and decisive legal action.
Shocking and sensational confessions: “Secret marriage and threats”
The crisis began with a series of posts by blogger Rana Ahmed, known for her affiliation with Al Ahly, on her official Instagram account’s “stories.” Rana broke her long silence, as she put it, with sharp words, saying: “I kept quiet for a long time out of respect for myself, but enough is enough.”
Rana claimed that her relationship with El Shenawy was more than just getting to know each other; it progressed to a “secret official engagement and marriage,” indicating that one of his close friends was a witness to the marriage. She added that she agreed to the secrecy based on his promises to announce the marriage later, but things changed, and she began to face pressure to force her into silence.
Allegations of “Financial Blackmail” and Recorded Evidence
The blogger’s accusations didn’t stop at marriage; she also claimed she was threatened with a “defamation” lawsuit if she revealed the truth. Rana alleged that Karim Rizk, the former social media manager at Al-Ahly, contacted her offering “money in exchange for her silence.”
Rana asserted that she possesses messages and videos via WhatsApp and Instagram that prove her claims, explaining that she has already initiated legal proceedings through her lawyer, saying, “My rights will be revealed to the public… I am ready to disclose everything, but whoever conceals the faults of others will have their faults concealed by God.”
Mohamed El Shenawy’s Response: “Fabricated and aimed at gaining fame”
In response, international goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy was quick to react, expressing outrage at these allegations. El Shenawy denied knowing the woman at all, considering what was published a cheap attempt to defame him and gain fame at his expense.
Indeed, El Shenawy instructed his lawyer to initiate legal proceedings against the girl. His law office issued an official statement today, Thursday, March 12, 2026, which read:
“As the representative of Captain Mohamed El Shenawy, we announce that we are taking all legal measures against the plaintiff for publishing completely false and fabricated news with the aim of defamation. We will continue to pursue legal action against these unethical allegations.”
Who is Rana Ahmed?
Rana Ahmed is an Egyptian activist and blogger, known for her meticulous coverage of Al-Ahly Club news and her publication of sports and social content. Her sudden appearance with these allegations has placed her in direct confrontation with the Egyptian judiciary, as the case has now transformed from a social media trend into a legal battle within the courts.
This incident brings to mind the crisis sparked by Iman El-Zidi in early 2016. El-Zidi shocked the public by announcing her separation from former goalkeeper Mohamed Abdel-Monsef, revealing a legal marriage that had lasted for seven years in secrecy, separate from his public life with his current wife, actress Liqaa El-Khamissi.
