Russian content creator and mountaineer Rustam Nabiev has etched a new name in the annals of human willpower after successfully summiting Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak, reaching an altitude of 8,849 meters using only his hands. This remarkable feat came after he lost both legs in a tragic accident years earlier.
Nabiev shared a photo on his official Instagram account of himself atop the world’s highest peak, holding a flag bearing a poignant message to the world: “To those who thought life ended after a fall.”
This extraordinary achievement garnered widespread global attention. Among the most prominent congratulators was renowned Kazakh mountaineer Maksut Zumaev, who wrote: “Congratulations on reaching the summit, my brother! You are the best motivator and inspiration on Earth. Keep shining and shining to be the greatest example for everyone. I wish you and your family continued health and happiness.”
The renowned Russian influencer Victoria Bonya, who herself summited Mount Everest in 2015, was among the first to congratulate the Russian adventurer on this legendary achievement.
Nabiev, 34, had his life completely transformed in 2015 after a tragic accident when the roof of a military barracks in Omsk collapsed while he was serving in the Russian army, resulting in the amputation of both his legs.
Since then, Nabiev has dedicated his life and digital content to proving that people with disabilities are capable of living full and complete lives, and that there is no place for giving up under any circumstances. Nabiev’s ambitions extend beyond sports; he is currently planning to establish a rehabilitation center for adults who acquired disabilities later in life, to help them overcome their psychological and physical challenges.
Rustam Nabiev is the first and only person in the world to successfully summit the highest mountain peaks using only his hands and without any external assistance. During a five-year journey, he conquered some of the world’s most prominent peaks, including Mount Elbrus, Mount Manaslu, Mount Ararat, Mount Kazbek, Mount Kilimanjaro, and Mount Aconcagua.
In addition to his passion for mountaineering, Nabiev has a distinguished athletic career. He plays ice hockey for people with disabilities, winning a silver medal at the 2018 All-Russian Paralympic Games, and had aspirations to participate in the 2022 Beijing Winter Paralympics. He also practices bodybuilding.
