The appearance of an Egyptian song in the final episode of the series “Malcolm in the Middle” sparked widespread reactions among Arab audiences.
The series “Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair” generated both controversy and admiration after the song “Satlana” appeared in one of the scenes. A festive atmosphere ensued, set to the tune of the popular song performed by Abdel Basset Hamouda, Mahmoud El Leithy, Hamdy Batshan, and Hassan El Kholaei, which continued to be used as background music in the following scene.
The song “Satlana” dates back to 2023 and was featured in the film “Baad El Shar,” which was released during the Eid al-Fitr holiday. It achieved widespread popularity at the time due to its distinctive folk style.
In terms of viewership, Disney announced that the series has made a strong comeback, achieving the highest viewership for its season premiere episodes across Disney+ and Hulu, totaling 8.1 million views in just three days. The company noted that it boasts the second-highest opening for a series on Disney+ in some markets, particularly in Latin America, where it garnered 3.6 million views, surpassed only by the first season of “Loki.”
The new season also generated significant digital engagement, with its content exceeding 19 million impressions across social media platforms, in addition to millions of views and interactions on YouTube.
“Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair” revolves around the return of family chaos after more than a decade. Malcolm is forced to return to his family after being invited to his parents’ 40th wedding, only to find himself once again caught in the midst of their troubled family life.
The show features a number of stars from the original series, including Bryan Cranston, Frankie Muniz, Jane Kachmarek and Chris Kennedy Masterson, along with a host of new faces. It is written by Linwood Bomer and directed by Ken Kwapis.
