KPop Demon Hunters Dominates the 2026 Annie Awards

KPop Demon Hunters has emerged as an unstoppable force in the world of animation, capturing the spotlight at this year’s Annie Awards, where it won a staggering 10 awards, including the coveted title of Best Feature. Produced by Sony Pictures Animation and available on Netflix, this global sensation has quickly become the streamer’s most-watched film, racking up an impressive 481.6 million views worldwide in the latter half of 2025.

The Wins at the 2026 Annie Awards

Directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, KPop Demon Hunters not only clinched the title of Best Feature but also took home awards for Best Direction, Best Music, Best Writing, and Best Editorial. In addition, Arden Cho, who voiced the character Rumi, won for Best Voice Acting. The film swept several technical categories, winning accolades for Best FX, Best Character Animation, Best Character Design, and Best Production Design.

Independent Features Shine

In the independent category, Arco, a hand-drawn feature by Ugo Bienvenu, captured the award for Best Independent Feature. The film’s unique artistic style sets it apart as a strong competitor in the animation field.

Notable Trends and Insights

The last recipient of the Annie for Best Feature that also won an Oscar was Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio in 2023. Last year’s winner for Best Feature at the Annies, The Wild Robot, also remains notable, as the Oscars recognized the independent feature Flow, which was honored at the Annies.

Television Categories and Additional Honors

In the television categories, notable winners included Adult Swim’s Common Side Effects, awarded for Best TV/Media – Mature, and Hulu’s The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball, winning Best TV/Media – Children. The Winsor McCay Award recognized influential figures in the animation industry, including Michaël Dudok de Wit, along with Christopher Miller and Phil Lord.

Special Awards

Sandy Rabins received the June Foray Award for significant contributions to the animation community, while the Ub Iwerks Award for technical advancements was awarded to Wacom, the creators of the industry-standard Cintiq graphics tablet.
