Dr. Ashraf Zaki, head of the Actors’ Syndicate, put an end to the controversy surrounding the dispute between Ahmed El-Awady and Mohamed Imam, confirming his intervention to contain the crisis that arose between them due to box office competition.
Zaki told ET Arabic that he contacted both parties and asked them to delete the posts circulating online, noting that his actions stemmed from a spirit of brotherhood and camaraderie, and that such matters should not occur between colleagues in the profession.
For his part, Ahmed El-Awady revealed details of the communication to ET, saying, “Dr. Ashraf Zaki contacted us and asked us to delete the videos. He’s like a father to us, and I deleted the post.”
El-Awady emphasized that there are no disagreements between him and Mohamed Imam, asserting, “I’m not at odds with Mohamed Imam. Mohamed is my brother, my colleague, a big star, and I respect him very much. I congratulated him on his film, so no one should imagine that there’s any conflict or animosity between us, as some people thought during Ramadan.” We have a healthy competition, and this isn’t directed at Mohamed; it’s directed at the entity that generates the revenue.
These statements come after a wave of controversy on social media due to the competition between the two films, before the crisis quickly ended with the deletion of the posts and the closure of the matter.
This followed a heated competition between actors Mohamed Imam and Ahmed El-Awady for the top spot at the box office, after each celebrated their film’s success. While Mohamed Imam confirmed the success of his film “Saqr wa Kanaria” (Falcon and Canary), Ahmed El-Awady clarified that “Samson and Delilah” was leading the pack, thus continuing the competition between the two films for first place.
