Actor Khaled El Sawy affirmed that his portrayal of Gamal Abdel Nasser marked a significant turning point in his artistic career, and he considers it one of his most cherished roles.
During his appearance on the program “El Setat Maye3rafoush Yekdebo” (Women Don’t Know How to Lie) with presenters Mona Abdel Ghani and Iman Abdel Ghani, El Sawy revealed that in his early career, he experienced a period of shaken self-confidence. He was constantly plagued by the question, “I love acting… but why doesn’t acting love me back?”—a testament to the anxiety and questioning he endured during that time.
He explained that he went through a period of continuous searching for his artistic identity before gradually regaining his confidence as his experience and diverse roles developed. He emphasized that this period formed an important part of his acting journey.
El Sawy praised director Enam Mohamed Ali, who played a significant and pivotal role in developing his acting skills. She was always keen on presenting a “real and well-researched character,” avoiding superficial performances, especially in the historical works he participated in, such as “Mustafa Amin” and “Gamal Abdel Nasser.” This helped him develop his acting abilities more deeply.
During his interview, he addressed the health and psychological crises he experienced in recent years, explaining that the strength of his faith was essential in protecting him from himself and from impulsive actions that could lead to poor decisions or severe trauma.
He added that he was able to regain his health and self-confidence after undergoing gastric sleeve surgery, following numerous attempts at dieting that failed to produce effective results. He also mentioned trying weight-loss injections, but they were unsuitable for him as they are primarily intended for diabetics.
