The competition between actors Mohamed Emam and Ahmed El Awady for the top spot at the box office has intensified after each celebrated their film’s success. While Mohamed Emam confirmed the success of his film “Saqr wa Kanaria” (Falcon and Canary), Ahmed El Awady asserted that “Samson and Delilah” was leading the pack, thus continuing the battle between the two films for first place.
The competition escalated further after Ahmed El Awady posted a statement on his official Facebook page confirming that his film “Samson and Delilah” was at the top of the box office, commenting: “By the grace of God, number one for the second week… 46 million in 9 days.”
Al-Awadi also questioned the figures circulating regarding the box office earnings of the film “Saqr wa Kanaria,” denouncing the claim that it made 6 million Egyptian pounds on the day of the Egypt-Argentina match. He said, “I honestly don’t know why people are exaggerating the revenue figures. They’re saying we made 6 million on the day of the Egypt-Argentina match. Were you showing the match in cinemas or what?”
Mohamed Imam quickly responded, posting a statement on his Instagram account showing the box office earnings of “Saqr wa Kanaria,” highlighting its top position in the Egyptian box office amidst strong competition from the film “Samson wa Delilah,” starring Ahmed Al-Awadi and Mai Omar, which recently premiered in cinemas.
Attached to the revenue statement was a message clearly alluding to the controversy surrounding the box office figures. He wrote, “A small portion of yesterday’s earnings in cinemas. I don’t know why some people are inflating the revenue figures to appear successful. Sorry.”
