The Supreme Council for Media Regulation issued a decisive decision to begin blocking all social media accounts belonging to the content creator known as “Karawan Mashakel” (meaning “Karawan the Troublemaker”), and referred the entire case to the Public Prosecution for legal action. This is a serious step to regulate the digital landscape and combat content that violates public decency.
The Council, headed by Engineer Khaled Abdel Aziz, announced that it has officially contacted the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) to compel digital platforms to immediately and completely block the accounts of the individual in question, thus preventing the spread of his videos, which have recently sparked widespread outrage. The decision also included contacting the Public Prosecution to initiate legal proceedings regarding the blatant legal violations that have been observed and documented.
The Council based its decision on reports from the General Directorate of Monitoring and recommendations from the Complaints Committee, headed by media figure Essam El-Amir, the Council’s deputy chairman. These reports summarized the violations in three key points, the first being the violation of public decency through the broadcasting of videos containing language and innuendo that contravene public morals.
Secondly, the violation of privacy and the exploitation of digital platforms to disseminate information that is offensive to society and exceeds the bounds of freedom of expression. Finally, the transgression against family values by presenting content that incites youth and adolescents to adopt behaviors alien to society and its moral heritage.
The decision was widely welcomed by media and legal experts, who considered it a bulwark against the chaos of “content creators” who prioritize profit over ethics. The council urged everyone to adhere to professional standards, emphasizing that it would not hesitate to take the strongest measures to protect Egyptian identity and societal values.
