In a surprise move for gamers, Nintendo held a live stream called “Star Fox Direct,” during which it revealed an enhanced version of the classic game “Star Fox 64.” The game is scheduled for release exclusively on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 on June 25th, with full support for online multiplayer.
The new version features a reimagined visual style and updated character designs, which Nintendo described as a “cinematic version.” It includes new cutscenes with full voice acting, as well as enhanced quest summaries between levels. The game also offers multiple difficulty modes, including Easy, Normal, and Expert, along with a Challenge mode that presents entirely new objectives.
“Star Fox” features an 8-player (4v4) battle mode across diverse arenas, ranging from controlling points in Corneria and collecting crystals in Fichina to facing pirates in Sector Y. The game will also support GameShare both locally and online, making it easy to share the experience with friends.
It retains the classic level structure and gameplay that fans love, along with the iconic humorous dialogue between the cast (Fox, Falco, Sleepy, and Peppy). The game supports local co-op throughout the campaign, where one player takes on the role of the pilot and another the gunner. It will also be compatible with the upgraded N64 Controller and the new Joy-Con 2.
